Your work with MICG

Rolls-Royce is an end-user (consumer) of advanced ceramics. Advanced ceramics are enabling materials technology for numerous aerospace components and as such Rolls-Royce directs and collabrorates on research which shows potential for differentiating performance in power generation.

The focus of R-R work in partnership with MICG members has been related to Ceramic Matrix Composites. The capabilities of the consortium have allowed us to develop or mature technology to address gaps in our CMC manufacturing capabilities – for example developing a sintering and distortion digital twin, slurry processing yield improvements, large electric CMC sintering furnace development and ceramic joining.

Aims for the future under the MICG programme

Complete the experimental validation of the sintering and distortion modelling, in order for this to become part of the design workflow for the definition of an oxide/oxide CMC green body geometry.

Trial improved CMC slurry processing via commercial pre-preg suppliers and validate improved robustness.
